Spanish Language and The Way of Saint James (Camino de Santiago)

The course is intended for people who want to learn Spanish and find out more about Spanish culture, with a special focus on the Camino de Santiago – the Saint James's Way. The course comprises three types of activities:

• a practical introduction to Spanish language and culture
• an analytical introduction to the Saint James's Way
• a five-day walk on the Way itself, to arrive at Santiago de Compostela

The Saint James's Way was recognised in 1987 by the Council of Europe as the first European Cultural Route. The way is a pilgrim route, which millions of people have followed over the course of over a thousand years to the city of Santiago de Compostela, where it is said that the remains of the apostle Saint James lie. In addition to being a physical way (or ways, for there are a number of different pilgrim routes which end in Santiago de Compostela) it is, above all, a spiritual and cultural trajectory which has played an important role in the diffusion and dissemination of culture and belief in Europe.
